Kauai Tours: Things to See |
|
Here
are some main features you will see on Kauai tours.
The Na Pali Coast. Here is a picture of the Na Pali cliffs, which cascade down to the sea on the northwest side of the island. On this side of the island in the rainy season, 30-foot waves leave their mark on the cliffs. Those marks are visible in August in the dry season.
We took a boat ride partway around the island to see the cliffs.
The tour guide told us that the cliffs had caught the attention of Hollywood directors, who filmed scenes there from movies including Jurassic Park, King Kong, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. At the top left of this page, there is a shot from a sea cave on the Na Pali coast.
This stunning coastline is 22 miles long.
The
volcanic landscape. Just driving around the island,
you see breathtakingly beautiful scenes. The volcanic crags are
impossibly steep, to my eyes. This well-known view is from the Kalalau Lookout at Kokee State Park in the interior, looking down and northward toward the water from the top of the Na Pali cliffs.
Wailua Falls. This twin waterfall in the rainforest is quite a sight to see. Wailua Falls in the Wailua River near Lihue Princeville. This portion of the island is green and lovely.
Waimea Canyon. This "little Grand Canyon" is spectacular too. You are seeing cloud shadows dappling the canyon in the photo below.
