My husband Steve loves to golf, so this is definitely on our agenda for our next trip, now that the kids are teenagers. What an experience that will be! Let's go on a golf tour of Kauai, starting on the north side at Princeville and moving clockwise.
Lihue. Continuing clockwise around the island, we find more 18-hole courses near Lihue on the southeast side. The Puakea Golf Course is a public course built in 2003 with a greens fee of about $125 and a par of 70; it was designed by Robin Nelson. Another Lihue course is the Kiele Golf Course at the Kauai Lagoons Golf Club, a Marriott resort. Jack Nicklaus designed this 18-hole golf course, rated a "gold medal" course by Golf Magazine. The greens fee is about $185 unless you are staying at the Marriott. Kiele's sister course is the Mokihana course at the Kauai Lagoons Golf Club, also par 72 and designed by Jack Nicklaus. Koloa/Poipu. Continuing our tour around the island, we come to Koloa, which is just north of Poipu on the south shore. There are two 18-hole golf courses in Koloa. The Kiahuna Golf Club there is a par-70 course also designed by Robert Trent Jones and built in 1984. And the Poipu Bay Beach Resort is a par-72 course built in 1991 with the same designer. This hosts the PGA Grand Slam of Golf. Kalaheo. Our clockwise golf tour ends in Kalaheo, which is inland in the middle of the south shore area. Here is the nine-hole public Kukuiolono Golf Course, designed by Toyo Shirai. This is the oldest golf course on Kauai, built in 1928. The greens fee is about $8 for the nine holes. It's a par-36 course. And so, you see, Kauai is a treasure island for golfers! Return from Golf - Kauai to Kauai Activities . Return from Golf - Kauai to Kauai Treasure Island home page. |
